1. They check different things.<\/strong> One tool weights technical health heavily; another focuses on content and on-page; a third leans on backlinks. A site that’s technically clean but light on content scores high on one and low on another. (This is the technical vs on-page<\/a> split showing up in the score.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. They weight issues differently.<\/strong> Two tools might both flag the same ten problems, but one treats a missing meta description as minor and another as major. Same issues, different math, different score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Field data vs lab data.<\/strong> For speed and Core Web Vitals, some tools use lab data<\/em> (a single controlled test) and others use field data<\/em> (real visitors). These often disagree \u2014 the same page can look fast in a lab test and slower for real users. (More in Core Web Vitals explained<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. Different crawl depth.<\/strong> One tool checks a single page; another crawls your whole site. A great homepage with weak inner pages scores very differently depending on how much the tool looked at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. When they crawled.<\/strong> Sites change. A score from this morning and one from last week can differ simply because you (or Google) changed something in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don’t trust the number<\/em> \u2014 trust the findings<\/em>. The score is a headline; the value is in the specific issues underneath it. Two tools disagreeing on the score will usually still agree on the real problems: “your titles are weak,” “these pages aren’t indexed,” “your LCP is slow.” That list is what matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Practical approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n No tool’s score is the goal \u2014 rankings, traffic, and conversions are. A perfect 100 that doesn’t bring visitors is worthless; a 70 on a page that ranks and converts is a win.
